Kalua Pig
Kalua Pig – Traditional Hawaiian Pork
Juicy and flavorful slow-cooked pork shoulder with classic smoky aroma – serves 12.
Ingredients:
- 1 (approx. 2.7 kg / 6 lbs) pork shoulder (pork butt roast)
- 1½ tbsp Hawaiian sea salt
- 1 tbsp liquid smoke
Preparation:
- 1. Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and generously rub it with Hawaiian sea salt.
- 2. Drizzle the liquid smoke evenly over the meat and massage well to infuse the smoky flavor.
- 3. Place the seasoned meat into a slow cooker.
- 4. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours until the meat is very tender and pulls apart easily.
- 5. Shred the pork using two forks and mix thoroughly.
- 6. Serve the Kalua pig hot – traditionally with rice and optionally with pickled vegetables or salad.
